The William Herschel 40-foot telescope, known also as the Great Forty-Foot reflecting telescope, was constructed between 1785 and 1789 at the home of the astronomer, "Observatory House" in Slough, England. The primary mirror measured 48-inch (120 cm) diameter, and had a focal length of 40-foot (12 m) hence the name. At the time this was the largest telescope in the world and remained so for some 50 years.

Produced originally as an educational asset, the build could also function as a point of interest for many sims.
